The leadership style the most fitted for implementing change is transformational leadership. This leadership includes factors that facilitate EBP implementation. Landau (2017) formulated ten essential skills for project management (as cited in Cipes, 2020, p. 82). The author will need communication, scheduling, risk management, and a sense of humor for the proposed project. Finally, the transformational leader should have passionate frontline leadership and multifaceted organizational, individual, and social strategies (Bianchi et al., 2018). Successful leaders also need to look for EBP and practice according to the latest evidence. For this reason, the leaders need to have adequate education in research, experience in leadership and create an empowering environment in the organization to practice EBP (Bianchi et al., 2018).
For successful dissemination of the results, the leader requires an organizational culture that values patient-centered care, engagement of stakeholders, and support from the champions (Castiglione & Lavoie-Tremblay, 2021). The site’s organizational culture aligns with mindfulness interventions’ values in promoting patient well-being and autonomy. The stakeholders also actively participate in the change process by offering ideas about embedding mindfulness interventions in everyday practices. Finally, champions of change are already requesting resources to understand the subject of mindfulness more. Therefore, the DNP student expects the process of dissemination to be smooth and successful.
Leadership style dramatically influences the change process. Nurse leaders need skills to support staff, set an example in their working unit, and develop collaboration (Välimäki et al., 2018). Providing an example by practicing mindfulness and influencing coworkers is in the process. Creating cooperation is also supported by practicing mindfulness with coworkers and providing some team exercises. However, supporting staff on a day-to-day basis appears complicated due to a busy schedule, staffing issues, and competing priorities. The nurses are encouraged to practice mindfulness during their work and share mindfulness resources with their patients. Still, it is a long process to develop a new habit in life and employ new interventions with patients. The author believes that by seeing the positive results of mindfulness in their lives, the nurses will be more willing to offer these practices to their patients.
